Master Replicas teams with Bodum and Paramount Global

Master Replicas have teamed up with Bodum and Paramount Global to produce a unique licensed collectable: a reissue of a Bodum tea cup that became synonymous with Star Trek’s Captain Picard. In the futuristic world of the Enterprise, Picard would frequently ask his food replicator to provide him with a cup of Earl Grey tea – invariably adding the word ‘hot’. The tea almost always materialized in an elegant glass cup.

That cup was a real 20th century product that was made by Bodum. It was part of the Bistro system and consisted of a simple glass beaker with a black plastic handle supported by a ring that was wrapped around the top of the glass. The Star Trek art department chose it because it looked classic and the simple design felt as if it belonged in the 24th century. Over the years, Picard ordered so much tea that it became synonymous with him, and the cup appeared again and again. Fans picked up on it, and informally dubbed it the Picard cup.

But Bodum discontinued the Bistro cup in 2016 so fans, and even the Star Trek art department, had to rely on eBay to source them.

When Master Replicas signed a Star Trek license in 2023, they wanted to create unique products that appealed to fans, the kind of things that subtly brought a little bit of Picard’s world into their own homes.   With Paramount Global’s blessing, they approached Bodum, who enthusiastically agreed to produce a limited run of special Star Trek tea cups. This time around each cup has the Star Trek, Master Replicas and Bodum logos printed discreetly on the base, and is sold in a set of four. It’s available for pre-order now from masterreplicas.com.
