MIP: The Wiggles & Sinking Ship Entertainment announce animated series

The Wiggles and Sinking Ship Entertainment (SSE) have joined forces to develop a new animated series based on The Wiggles long-lasting and beloved brand.  The collaboration marks the beginning of an exciting new children’s property that blends SSE’s storytelling expertise and animation prowess with The Wiggles characters and incredible, multi-award-winning music library. The announcement was made jointly today at MIPCOM by Luke O’Neill, CEO of The Wiggles, and Carla de Jong, Head of Co-Production and International Partnerships for Sinking Ship Entertainment.

The series will be an original concept, offering audiences an exciting new way to engage with The Wiggles. Rather than adapting an existing series, this project will build upon the core themes that have made The Wiggles a household name while delivering a new adventure for young audiences and families.  The Wiggles brand has always entertained and educated a wide age range and co-viewing will be a main focus while developing the series. Music, a cornerstone of The Wiggles’ brand, will take center stage in this animated venture.

Luke O’Neill comments, “For quite some time, The Wiggles have been eager to explore new avenues for expressing our brand through an animated series. We are thrilled to partner with Sinking Ship, a company that shares our vision and will help us expand the brand’s creative reach.”

Carla de Jong, Head of Co-Production at SSE, added, “What has always impressed us about The Wiggles is not only their deep understanding of the audience but how they have consistently evolved to meet their needs. Moving into animation opens up new creative possibilities that will allow us to connect with preschoolers and families in unique ways, it’s the natural next step in the evolution of the brand and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.”

The Wiggles have had incredible success since Greg, Murray, Anthony and Jeff took to the recording studio and stage over 30 years ago. The Wiggles TV programs, music, books, and tours continue to educate and entertain children all over the world.  Their recent brand extensions – rapidly growing YouTube channel, release of their 100th Album,  entry into the adult techno space with The Wiggles Sound System: Rave of Innocence music videos and album, parenting podcast Wiggle Talk, collaborations with well-known children’s brands such as Blippi, The Harlem Globetrotters, and Miss Rachel, in addition to the kick-off of their international Bouncing Balls tour next summer, continue to keep the brand at the forefront of the industry.

The new animated series comes at a pivotal time for both companies as SSE and The Wiggles broaden their international presence. SSE continues to push boundaries for children’s and youth programming across all genres and The Wiggles continue to increase their footprint as a global leader in children’s music and entertainment delighting audiences all over the world for over three decades.
