BOOP! The Musical Brings Betty to Life
BOOP! The Musical began its Broadway run March 11 ahead of an April 5 opening night at the Broadhurst Theatre.
The Betty Boop Musical is something that’s been in development for a long time, and they could never really find an angle, and Jerry brought me in and we just sort of discussed a way to approach it all,” writer Bob Martin says. “Because, Betty Boop…she’s known all over the world, but people only really know about her as a graphic. She doesn’t have a narrative, like Annie, Little Orphan Annie, or something like that. So we had to create a story that sort of introduces Betty to the world.”
Tony winner Jerry Mitchell is directing and choreographing the new musical, with music by David Foster and lyrics by Susan Birkenhead.
Leading the cast in the title role is Jasmine Amy Rogers.
Rogers has been starring in the title role since its 2023 Chicago run. “My Betty Boop is tough and loving and fun and quirky, because thats how I am,” Rogers says. “She just loves a good time, a good smile and caring for the people around her.”
