Cambridge Satchel Reveals Miffy Collection

Cambridge Satchel Reveals Miffy Collection

Rocket Licensing, which manages UK licensing for the much-loved Miffy brand on behalf of brand owner Mercis, has announced the arrival at retail of an exciting capsule collection of products to celebrate Miffy’s 70th anniversary from a very special new Miffy licensee.

Cambridge Satchel, a truly British brand with design and handcrafted UK manufacturing at its own workshop, has produced a number of unique Miffy products – including its iconic satchels.

This wonderful addition to the fast-growing Miffy licensing campaign has brought to retail a wide variety of highly desirable leather goods including a variety of cross-body bags, mini satchels, mini purses, cotton totes, airpod cases and backpacks.

All are illustrated using special takes on the iconic Miffy design. The Miffy Face Cross-Body Bag, for example, is a celebration of minimalist design with maximum impact. Its smooth circular silhouette is detailed with Miffy’s unmistakable face.

The Playful Peekaboo Series – including a mini satchel, small portrait backpack and cotton canvas tote – shows Miffy peeking out from the luggage tag window.

Then there’s the Hiding Bag Series – Pushlock bags, Satchels, Cross-Body bags and more – which adds charm courtesy of Miffy’s surprise appearance between two shades of leather.

There’s also a range of notebooks, key charms and bookmarks with designs that show Miffy, standing, working or playing – or that simply highlight her instantly recognisable face.

A variety of arresting bright colour backgrounds – including royal blue, curious blue, Windsor tan, carrot orange, yolk yellow, brilliant white and black – keep the look striking but simple – characteristics the range shares with Dick Bruna’s much-loved little bunny.

The capsule collection launched in mid-April, and will sell worldwide through Cambridge Sachel’s own shops, on its website and via its network of retail partners.

A second drop is planned for later this year; It will see the arrival of a coin wallet, card holder, pencil case, ruler, passport case and luggage labels.

Cambridge Satchel is the world’s most renowned satchel brand and a leading leather goods company, known for its vividly coloured bags and its exciting collaborations worn by celebrities, influencers and style leaders across the globe. The new Miffy collection has been handcrafted by Cambridge Satchel’s highly skilled makers at their workshop in the heart of England. Founded in 2008, Cambridge Satchel opened its own UK workshop in 2011 to bring production in house and has been committed to preserving exceptional British craftsmanship ever since.

Cambridge Satchel has a commitment to ethical sourcing that ensures that all bags are crafted from the finest-quality sustainable leather – itself a by-product of the food industry. The company also develops small leather items such as key rings to ensure off-cuts don’t go to waste.

It’s no surprise that a company noted for its stylish bags and satchels has chosen to work with this much-loved brand. Miffy is an instantly recognisable design classic thanks to her bright colours, friendliness and simplicity of design.

She’s also a popular licensing partner. Recent signings include Blueprint Collections (stationery and gifts), The Carat Shop, (jewellery and hair accessories), Blade & Rose (baby and toddler leggings, socks and tops), Dennicci (babywear) Dreamtex (duvet covers and cushions), Skinnydip (phone cases, dressing gowns and pyjamas) Woodmansterne (cards) and Cath Kidston (award-winning homewares, apparel and accessories across women’s and childrenswear), all underlining Miffy’s huge consumer appeal.

This momentum is continuing in a year that will see already strong awareness further boosted by promotional events and media coverage around Miffy’s 70th anniversary – and many more licensee announcements.

An important part of the brand’s success is its multigenerational appeal. As well as the baby, toddler and young girls’ and boys’ demographics, the brand is also popular with older teens and women, as the Cambridge Satchel collection acknowledges. These are opportunities that Rocket and Mercis will continue to address throughout 2025.

Sandra Duke, Sales Director, Cambridge Satchel, says: “We were thrilled to be invited to work with one of the world’s best-known and loved brands, as our classic designs with pops of colour compliment the world of Miffy – and our customers will be thrilled to see this new collaboration. Miffy is a perfect addition to our range as part of the 70th anniversary, a design classic whose wit and charm is a glorious addition to our collections.”

Marja Kerkhof, MD Mercis, says: “This year celebrates the design icon Miffy as she turns 70 — and she’s never looked better. This very special collaboration, which brings together Miffy’s playful charm with the craftsmanship and heritage of Cambridge Satchel, is a perfect tribute: bold, joyful and refreshingly timeless — much like Miffy herself.”

Charlie Donaldson, Joint Managing Director of Rocket Licensing, adds: “This exciting new partnership with Cambridge Satchel is a design masterclass, combining the simplicity and instant recognisability of Miffy with equally striking colour schemes in a range of superior-quality leather goods that are both superbly made and highly desirable. This range will, I am sure, be another massive success for both Cambridge Satchel and Miffy.”
