‘Lulumos’: Brazilian Animation Debuts on YouTube
In a fun school talent show, three inseparable friends – Hit, Disco and Zig Lu – take the stage for a performance full of music, energy and cuteness. With super lively and educational songs, they invite the kids (and the whole family) to sing, dance and have fun together.
This is the premise of “Lulumos”, a Brazilian animation that has just launched its own YouTube channel. The first episode features an English version for the Brazilian classic song “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”, performed by the characters. The original version has already 300k views. The 3D animation values friendship, creativity and learning – special moments for all ages.
“We chose a live performance as the setting for this song because it is a moment that many children experience at school – full of anticipation, anxiety and joy,” summarizes Gustavo Ribeiro, the project’s director. The series mixes popular rhythms with reinterpretations of children’s classics, but there will also be room for original compositions. “It’s incredible to see the characters start out shy and then shine on stage – it’s a message of overcoming for the little ones”, he adds.
The animation’s official website (lulumos.com.br) is also online, with news about the group, as well as interactive activities for children, such as a coloring book to print and have fun.
New episodes will be added regularly over the next months. “We wanted to bring songs that kids already love, but with a very Brazilian touch. In addition, we thought of the choreography as something simple and accessible, inspired by famous internet dances, but adapted for children. It’s about fun and movement,” defines Ribeiro, who shares the production credits with Thais Peixe.
“Behind the series’ visuals, there is a great deal of technological development carried out by Miralumo Filmes to make this project possible” says Ribeiro, who is also the director of the award-winning short film “Napo”. “Among the innovative aspects are the mix of 3D characters with 2D facial expressions and the development of an exclusive pipeline for the animation’s production,” he explains.
“Lulumos” is a creation of Miralumo Films, an internationally award-winning animation studio. It is also the creator of “Napo”, which was shown at more than 100 festivals around the world, winning 60 awards. The cartoon currently has more than 16 million views on YouTube. Based in Brazil, Miralumo is also a co-founder of Revolution, a digital arts school that trai
