Sinking Ship Entertainment Unveils MIP Slate
Sinking Ship Entertainment (SSE) is heading into MIPCOM this year with a dynamic lineup of new and continuing series. With a diverse offering of content aimed at audiences from preschoolers to teens, SSE continues its legacy of creating innovative, globally recognized shows that entertain and educate young audiences.
Brand new to the company’s slate is the teen drama Near or Far, produced by Toronto’s Harlow Creative in association with Wattpad WEBTOON Studios for CBC Gem. Created by Duana Taha, inspired by a Wattpad Original story by Emma Szalai, the series follows fraternal twins Lauren and Sadie, who are inseparable best friends, until they venture onto separate paths, exposing secrets, lies, betrayal – and a rift between them they’re not sure they can fix.
Also launching to the worldwide market will be Media Stamped, a groundbreaking new media literacy show for tweens produced for Telus Independent in Canada with additional funding support from the Shaw Rocket Fund. Created and hosted by Nicole Stamp, Media Stamped is designed to help young viewers critically navigate their complex media landscape. Co-produced with worldwide non-profit Global Citizen, the series will also be featured in a dedicated session at MIPCOM Junior.
For younger audiences, Sinking Ship is excited to present Wordsville, a new live-action series for 4-7-year-olds that teaches vocabulary and literacy through engaging storytelling. Produced for TVO Kids and Knowledge Network in Canada, and the WNET Group in the U.S., this unique show aims to foster a love for words and language at a crucial developmental stage.
Also launching at MIPCOM is the next iteration in one of SSE’s most beloved franchises. Dino Dex, the latest season in the company’s long-running dino franchise, introduces Dana’s little brother as he embarks on his own prehistoric journey, continuing the franchise’s tradition of blending action, adventure, and education. This season was produced for TVO Kids, Knowledge Network and TFO in Canada, and Amazon Kids+ in the US, with additional funding provided by the Shaw Rocket Fund.
Fans of the worldwide success Odd Squad can look forward to the new Odd Squad UK season, which brings UK-based agents into the fold, offering fresh challenges and quirky cases for the team to solve with their trademark ingenuity and fun. Odd Squad UK is a new format of the original series and an official treaty co-production between SSE and BBC Studio Kids & Family Productions in association with CBBC, PBS KIDS, TVOkids and Radio-Canada, with Fred Rogers Productions distributing the series in the U.S. and SSE taking worldwide rights.
“We’re incredibly proud of this year’s lineup, which demonstrates our commitment to high-quality, innovative storytelling for kids of all ages,” said Kate Sanagan, Head of Sales and Distribution at SSE. “Whether it’s exploring complex teen relationships, helping tweens navigate the media landscape, building language skills, or expanding our beloved math and dino franchises, we continue to try and push boundaries. Our shows not only entertain but also inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and meaningful connections among young audiences.”
